Got the cables in today! Two of each: Tach, Speedo, Brake, Clutch, Throttle. Glorious! 'Course, that'll be like one of the last things installed, I guess.
I'm trying at all costs to avoid the local Honda shop in town. I know I'll have to go there for certain OEM stuff like o-rings and seals and stuff, but they are usually overpriced jackasses. I went to MC Cycle to get the cables, and they are professional and nice as hell. I'll try to get most of my stuff from there.
I've been researching a bit on some different ways I want to chop my 500. I definitely like the bobber look, as shown above, (That's a '66 Honda twin) and it really isn't that difficult to do. My favorite I've seen thus far is featured in The Horse Magazine, but I don't have a scanner and I can't find pics of it online. It's pretty much all black with some red accents, very basic, which is what I'm going for.

The beast lives!
I've started working on the gold honda.
Yesterday I cleaned out the sediment bowl, put new fuel lines and filters on, threw some gas in it and the battery from my 500. With a little choke, the thing started right up. You just can't kill a Honda. It sounded pretty good, too. But, it didn't have much power, and as the bike warmed up, it just wouldn't idle. And, fuel was running out of the petcock, evidence of old rotten seals and o-rings. It was fun, though, just to see what the ol' twin sounded like.
After the move to Garners, hopefully this weekend, I'll start checking specs: Intake and Exhaust valve gaps, point gaps, spark plug gaps, air screw adjustments, timing, etc. I imagine a few tweaks here and a few new seals there, it'll be good to go. I've already got all the cables (tach, speedo, brake, and clutch) ordered for both bikes. The next order will be o-rings and seals for the petcock, and I suppose I'll order everything in pairs, 'cause if this one is screwed up, then surely the other bike is the same. Or worse.

Well, this is the point at which blogs intersect. It looks like I'll be moving my honda cycles to Garner's garage for restoring. I'm excited to be starting on a (3) new project(s), and have been scouring the web for ideas for my 500. Money's lacking, though, so it'll take some time to restore two cycles and then start cutting on my cycle. That's the fun part, though.
Went to Macaroni Grill tonight w/Xena. Good stuff, except they sat us right next to the kitchen. Then it was off to Eastside for beers and "Video Crack" as Xena calls it. I guess we're celebrating the weekend early, because we won't really have a weekend together - she'll be in KC and I'll be in Iowa. And I sure as hell won't be able to drink around the folks. I can get drunk w/ my brother if the situation presents itself, though.
Anyway, Crappy Holidays, everyone!

New projects....
In the past I restored a '73 Honda 500 Four cylinder, which now is my main cycle. In the future I think I'll turn it into a bobber since nothing on it is really original anyway. We'll see.
These two Hondas here are '72 350 twins. The deal is that I have to get the gold one rideable for the owner, and I can have the other one plus an old Yamaha 350 twin for free in exchange. Not a bad deal! I haven't dug the Yamaha out of the barn yet.
It's freakin' cold out, and I dont' have much of a workspace. I'm considering taking the handlebars off and trying to get them down my basement steps. Anyone who has seen my basement access knows that is a dicey proposition, but it'd be better than working outside.
So far, I've only looked in the gold one's tank, and took off a float bowl to see how crappy they are. Surprisingly, the tank and bowl both look clean. It looks like it was actually stored properly. It kicks over and has good compression. It might just need a battery, some cables, tires, some brake adjustment, chain lube, and a good cleanin'.
The purple one didn't fare so well. The engine seems locked, although it has oil and looks spotless inside the case. The inside of the tank looks horrible. I'm sure the entire fuel system is full of lacquer and rust. My 500 was just like this, and it has 4 carbs - that was fun. What else? uh, the plastic tube for the throttle grip is disintegrated, and it's missing some misc. bolts and stuff that I'm sure are on the gold one already. The starter is in a box. I did get a crapload of spare parts, though.
That's all the further I've gotten on that one, and I think it's going to go under a tarp for the winter while I work on the gold one.
Anyway, I'll keep you posted on the progress.

I am so fucking drunk it took me at least 3 tries to type the first sentence to this post! I'm serious! What the hell is going on?!?!
So I"m going to try and pick up 3 motorcycles from my friends' house tommorrow(today) and put them somewhere. Maybe my house. Wow, this is way too much work. See you soon, if you're lucky.

I kind of figured out today that my heart just isn't in this blog thing anymore. I was going to redo the site and got about halfway there, but....nah.

I guess this thing is just gonna sit here for a while until I figger out what the hell to do with the site/domain.

Yep.
