The beast lives!
I've started working on the gold honda.
Yesterday I cleaned out the sediment bowl, put new fuel lines and filters on, threw some gas in it and the battery from my 500. With a little choke, the thing started right up. You just can't kill a Honda. It sounded pretty good, too. But, it didn't have much power, and as the bike warmed up, it just wouldn't idle. And, fuel was running out of the petcock, evidence of old rotten seals and o-rings. It was fun, though, just to see what the ol' twin sounded like.
After the move to Garners, hopefully this weekend, I'll start checking specs: Intake and Exhaust valve gaps, point gaps, spark plug gaps, air screw adjustments, timing, etc. I imagine a few tweaks here and a few new seals there, it'll be good to go. I've already got all the cables (tach, speedo, brake, and clutch) ordered for both bikes. The next order will be o-rings and seals for the petcock, and I suppose I'll order everything in pairs, 'cause if this one is screwed up, then surely the other bike is the same. Or worse.
